Simple solutions to keep her in good windshield

A damaged windscreen can be dangerous. Here are some tips to keep your windshield in good condition. Good visibility will protect you and your family on the road.Automotive

Prevent condensation in your windshield

Eliminate condensation quickly

It is dangerous to drive with a fogged windscreen: you should never ride before it is completely demisted. Rub the inside of the windshield with a soft cloth to absorb moisture is a quick solution, but will leave marks that will affect your visibility.

  • To eliminate condensation without wiping, place the ventilation of your car by “fresh” mode rather than “recirculation”.
  • Then, turn on the air conditioning system, put it on the coldest setting and turn the fan to maximum. When the air conditioner starts to dry the air in the car, you can slowly increase the temperature to make your environment more comfortable.

The windscreen washer system does not spray

Unlock the nozzle with a pin

The fine nozzles of the windscreen washer system are easily clogged by dirt. First check the level of washer fluid in the tank and refill it as needed; then gently insert a pin into each nozzle to clear any blockage. Using the pin inserted into the nozzle, you can also change the direction of the jets to the windshield to ensure effective cleaning of the glass. Just move the pin to adjust the angle of the nozzle.

The windshield is dirty

Make your own cleaning products

It is not necessary to buy the washer fluid store. Make your own by mixing in a container 2 liter 15 ml (1 tablespoon) of dishwashing detergent to 300 milliliters (10 ounces) with isopropyl (rubbing alcohol), and fill with water. Fill the windshield washer tank of your car with this mixture.

  • If your windshield is covered with dried insects, pour a few drops of dish detergent in a bucket of hot water. Lie on the windshield with a sponge and then rub with a mesh bag (a bag of onions, for example) to remove glued insects.
  • Wash your windshield with a share of white vinegar to three parts water using a microfiber towel; for a streak-free finish, pat dry the windscreen with crumpled newspaper.

Avoid using domestic cleaning products for glass. Many of them contain ammonia, which can damage the plastics and rubber surrounding the car windows.

The windshield is scratched

Polish the ice off your windshield to have good visibility at all times

Using a good polish for glass (purchased at an auto supply store) will not only make your sparkling windshield, but it will also remove fine scratches that contribute to glare and water will bead when it is raining.

Splinters or cracks in a windshield should never be ignored because they can spread quickly, threatening your safety. Only small cracks and chips (3.5 cm (1 1/2 inch diameter or less) can be repaired by injecting a special resin in the cracked area. Auto supply stores sell kits that allow you do it at home. Follow the instructions carefully.

If in doubt, do not take no chance asap, contact your insurer or a company specializing in the repair of windshields.
